Local Rotarian given lifetime achievement award

The Cranbrook Rotary Club is recognizing the work of Judy Wiwchar, awarding her the lifetime achievement award.

“I’m incredibly honoured. I didn’t even know there was such an award,” she said.

Wiwchar was one of the first women to join the Rotary Club in 1992

“As one of the first women to join our club — breaking tradition when Rotary was still an all-men’s organization — we are proud to honor long-time member Judy Wiwchar for her outstanding dedication, commitment to Rotary, and the many contributions she continues to make to our club and community,” the club said.

She said you can help a lot more people when doing it as a group.

“The Rotary Club has always been special to me, because in my view you can do a lot more as a group in your community then you can as an individual. The Rotary is very important for that.”

Wiwchar was also the club’s first woman president.
