Food security charter public hearing moved to after municipal election

A public hearing for a Cranbrook OCP update regarding the creation of a Community food charter has been rescheduled to Nov. 23.

The hearing was supposed to take place during the Oct. 5 regular council meeting, but city staff said a clerical error made it so they had to reschedule.

Council gave first and second readings to the proposed Official Community Plan amendment during the previous meeting.

The charter is intended to establish a framework for addressing food insecurity and barriers to food security efforts in the Cranbrook area, including limited access, a lack of awareness and poor co-ordination between organizations.

More information on the charter can be found here.

With the hearing delayed, the new council will ultimately be the ones deciding on approval.
