Energy efficiency upgrades coming to Fernie

The City of Fernie will be converting 200 streetlights into LED technology.

City staff said it will improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Contractors will start replacing city-owned streetlights in mid-November.

Work is expected to wrap up in January and is estimated to result in $20,000 of energy and replacement cost savings, annually.

BC Hydro will also be providing a one-time incentive of nearly $40,000 to help cover initial fixture replacement costs.
