Reuse Centre at Cranbrook Transfer Station reopens on Tuesday

The RDEK Reuse Centre at the Cranbrook Transfer Station will reopen this Tuesday.

After reopening on Nov. 3, the centre will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 am to 1 pm.

RDEK officials said they know the community values the service and they appreciate everyone’s patience while the facility has been closed.

“The Reuse Centre was closed in early 2024 due to ongoing issues we were experiencing at the site, including continuous break-ins and vandalism, which caused costly damage to our fences, the buildings and property that potentially put staff and the public at risk,” explains RDEK Environmental Services Manager Jeff Blanchard.

“We recognize how important the facility is to the wider community, and we are hopeful that the previous challenges will not recur with this reopening of the Reuse Centre.”

Based on previous issues, these hours of operation were chosen because they are typically lower-volume times of the week that make it easier for on-site contractors to manage.

The Cranbrook Transfer Station is one of six RDEK Reuse Centres and is located in the industrial area on the city’s north end.

The RDEK Board will review the impacts of the reinstated service after six months of operation.
