Smoke detector battery check still important despite no clock change

The RDEK is reminding residents to make sure smoke detectors have working batteries.

Normally at this time of the year, the “change your clocks, check your batteries” reminder is in effect.

However, since we won’t be changing our clocks anymore, that reminder doesn’t work.

You should test each smoke alarm using its test button, replace batteries, make sure the smoke detector is installed in an appropriate location.

The RDEK is recommending choosing a date that works for you and make that a permanent part of your regular home-safety routine.
