Cranbrook residents invited to have their say at all-candidates forum

Cranbrook residents will have a chance to meet local election candidates, ask questions and hear where they stand on issues affecting the community at an upcoming all-candidates forum.

JCI Kootenay is hosting the free event Monday, Sept. 28 at Key City Theatre ahead of Cranbrook’s Oct. 17 municipal election.

Residents can meet candidates face to face during a meet-and-greet in the theatre lobby from 6 to 6:45 p.m. The public forum will begin at 7 p.m.

The forum is intended to give residents an opportunity to learn more about the people seeking elected office and hear their responses to questions from the community.

Audience members can anonymously submit questions for candidates before the forum.

People who cannot attend in person can still take part by submitting questions to forum@jcikootenay.com or through the JCI Kootenay Facebook page by noon on the day of the event.

Cranbrook voters will elect a mayor and six councillors in the Oct. 17 election. Two candidates are running for mayor, while 11 are seeking council seats.

The forum is free and open to Cranbrook residents.

A recording will also be posted to the JCI Kootenay Facebook page following the event, giving people who cannot attend another opportunity to hear from the candidates.

JCI Kootenay is a non-partisan, membership-based non-profit organization for people aged 18 to 40 who live and work in the East Kootenay.
