Firefighters contain basement fire near Windermere

Firefighters from Windermere and Invermere have contained a residential fire in the North Subdivision area, north of the Crossroads.

Thirteen firefighters from Windermere and six from Invermere responded to the blaze, which was confined to a small section of the home’s basement.

Windermere Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Dobbin said crews prevented the fire from spreading.

“The fire was within the basement of the residence, and the firefighters were able to keep it confined to a small area,” Dobbin said.

Ambulance personnel and RCMP also attended the scene.

The fire has been suppressed, but its cause and origin remain under investigation.

Fire officials continue to work with partner agencies as part of the response.
