Kimberley now under stage 3 water restrictions

Stage 3 water restrictions are now in effect in Kimberley.

The increased restrictions are a proactive measure in response to current wildfire conditions and the community’s evacuation alert status.

The city said it has observed increased water consumption over the past several days, and the higher demand is placing additional strain on the municipal water system.

To support emergency response needs, the city’s top priority is ensuring its water infrastructure continues to operate at full capacity.

Maintaining system capacity and adequate reservoir levels is essential if fire suppression efforts become necessary. If conditions worsen, the B.C. Wildfire Service may need to access local water supplies, including the Mark Creek Reservoir.

Conserving water now helps ensure critical water supplies remain available for essential needs and firefighting efforts.

The Stage 3 restrictions are intended to preserve water resources as a precaution while wildfire risk remains elevated.

The city acknowledged the restrictions may be inconvenient, but said reducing non-essential water use is critical to ensuring the community is prepared for emergencies.

The city said it will continue to closely monitor wildfire conditions, water system demand and reservoir levels.

The City of Kimberley thanked residents for their understanding and co-operation and said it hopes the restrictions will be short term.

Full details on Stage 3 Water Restrictions can be found on the City of Kimberley’s website.
