Heywood providing secondary conservative option in Kootenay-Rockies

CentreBC Kootenay-Rockies candidate Paul Heywood wants to provide conservative voters with a second option in the 2026 BC Election.

“I really thought that there should be another conservative party running against the BC conservatives just to make people aware of the shenanigans of the BC conservatives,” he said

“I have a background in pre-law, I got a background in political science and
I’ve worked with a lot of political leaders. What we’ve seen with the BC conservatives is not good and everyone thinks that they will get their act together after the election, but what if they don’t?”

He said his time in several senior leadership positions with the City of Cranbrook has given him the needed experience.

That includes Director of Recreation and Culture, Manager of Bylaw Investigations and Manager of Building Services.

“I used to work with every developer, every builder in this area, as I was processing millions of dollars worth of building permits,” he said.

“So I’ve managed a staff of over 80 and I’ve managed multimillion dollar budgets.”

Heywood said he is focused on the issues facing this riding that aren’t being addressed.

“I’m starting a campaign, to bring people back to the issues.
MLA Pete Davis has not brought up the real issues that are happening in terms of policing, in terms of hospitals, in terms of schooling, in terms of safety, security, housing, all of the above,” he added.

“All we’ve seen predominantly, is him putting up signs and him doing coffee talks. That’s important, but we really are at a point where there’s crucial issues and massive shortages happening in the Kootenay Rockies.”

Heywood said he’s not worried about splitting the vote and believes residents deserve another option.

“People just need to be aware that I’m conservative and I am not gonna split the vote. The NDP doesn’t stand a chance in this area, but I think people should vote wiser,” he said.

“If you want to use me as a protest vote, go for it. If you want to start thinking about how to create a structure that holds our MLAs accountable, let’s do it. I care about this community and it’s time that people learn about what we truly need. It’s not more posters, it’s not more signs. What we need is someone that will hustle for the Kootenay-Rockies and get things done.”

Final Voting Day in B.C.’s provincial election is Saturday, Oct. 24.

Advance voting runs from Oct. 16-21.
