Fernie awarded grant for arena upgrades

The City of Fernie is the recipient of a $40,000 grant to improve the physical accessibility of the Fernie Memorial Arena.

Work will include replacing asphalt at the entrance to ensure smoother safer access, automatic doors with accessible push button controls, and purchasing a comfort-sled.

The city will also receive a Permobil wheelchair for visitor, participant, and community use at City facilities.

The main entrance to the arena will be temporarily closed while work is underway.

The money comes from the RBC Barrier Buster Grant.
