Occupancy extended for Edgewater post office

The RDEK board has approved an extension of the occupancy of the Edgewater Post Office building.

It’s been extended to Aug. 31, 2026 to give the Edgewater postmaster time to set up a new location.

“This extension will give the Postmaster the time needed to set up the new space while ensuring as smooth a transition as possible for residents,” said Electoral Area G Director, Roberta Schnider.

“Having said that, safety remains our top priority and regular inspections will continue at the existing location with a number of conditions in place.” The conditions include a satisfactory report from the professional structural engineer permitting occupancy through August and no other significant changes in the building.”

The current post office in the former Credit Union building is in failing condition and needs to be decommissioned.

It was supposed to be demolished this spring, but with the extension it’s now planned for the fall.
