Work on new Edgewater fibre optic broadband network progresses

The Edgewater Broadband Project is underway, with construction of the fibre-optic network nearing completion.

The project will deliver fibre optic broadband service into the community of Edgewater and is fully funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Rural and Northern Communities Fund.

Starting today, a team from Cyprus Land Services will visit properties to obtain consent from eligible property owners to connect to the new fibre-optic broadband network.

Eligible homes and businesses will need the property owner’s permission before crews can install a fibre connection.

Cyprus Land Services will begin going door to door Aug. 24 between about 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to collect consent and will continue over the next few weeks.

Property owners have until Sept. 13 to respond. Installation during this phase of the project is free, but connecting to the network later may come at the owner’s expense. Construction dates for individual property connections are still being finalized.

Contractor DHC has completed all fibre placement work and most of the fibre splicing. Plans for the Fibre Active Cabinet are still being finalized. Once they are complete, the equipment will be ordered and construction can be finished.

Upgrades to the SCADA equipment for the Edgewater water and sewer systems are also planned. The upgrades will allow operators to monitor the systems remotely and improve their operation.

With contractors working in the community over the next few weeks, drivers are asked to slow down and follow posted signage.
