City seeing success with CityStudio agreement

The City of Cranbrook has had a successful partnership with the College of the Rockies with the first year of the CityStudio project.

The partnership gives students hand-on experience, while the city can explore new ideas for local projects.

For the winter semester the city has been working with nursing students on a youth initiative.

They’ve been conducting surveys with youth aged 13–17 to better understand their experiences, needs, and priorities related to local recreation and cultural services.

CAO Mark Fercho said they will be having some of those students come to council for a more detailed breakdown on the work so far.

“What we’re working on now is having the actual nursing students come and present to council on April 13,” he said.

“It is a success story for sure and we’re hoping to expand that out to more programs for next year.”

At the end of the pilot period, the City will prepare a simple summary that includes a list of completed projects, a brief success story and a year-end report.

Fercho said success will mean students gained valuable real-world experience and city staff benefited from the student’s help.
