Sparwood adopts OCP changes

Sparwood district council has adopted changes to their official community plan to include the 2024 housing needs report.

The OCP will now better reflect the number of housing units needed in the community.

The housing needs report found 237 units are needed within 5 years and 747 units within 20 years.

Planning director Patrick Sorfleet said they’re confident they’ll have the space to add more housing units.

“We did analyze our existing zoning and we did have capacity for more than 747 units, not counting infield developments, this is all green field,” he said.

“That meets our 20 year requirement.”

The district was required to make updates to the OCP to meet provincial legislation requirements before the end of the year.
