City moves forward on Parnaby Road Construction local area service

Cranbrook council has given three readings to move forward with establishing a local area service for Parnaby Road.

City staff said the project would improve Parnaby Road and the connecting local road to Corral Boulevard.

“The section of gravel road will be brought up to city standard, with curb, gutter and sidewalk,” said engineering manager Curtis Penson.

“The existing paved section will be repaved so we can get city street lights on, but it will be located in such a way that if and when those other properties develop they can pay their upgrade.”

The project is estimated to cost $6,546,262.

The city can borrow funds over 25 years, with full cost paid by properties in the local service area.

Property owners would have the choice to pay their share all at once or through annual payments.

The local area service would support future development on six lots on the east side of Shadow Mountain.

City staff said the golf course or strata properties won’t be affected.
