B.C. Conservatives drop candidate over alleged online comments about Hitler

The B.C. Conservatives have dropped another provincial election candidate following allegations he made antisemitic comments online about Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust.

The party said in a social media post on Thursday that Jordan McIntosh was no longer a Conservative candidate for Vancouver-Strathcona and he would not sit in caucus if he is elected.

The move came after B.C. NDP candidate for Vancouver-Quilchena Callista Ryan shared comments allegedly made by McIntosh under the pseudonymous account on X “DeathNight.”

The account is private, and the allegations concerning its ownership have not been independently verified.

Ryan also alleges the account posted or reposted the N-word more than 40 times in the last year.

McIntosh is the second Conservative candidate to be removed during the campaign following controversy over past social media activity.

Interim Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson previously dropped Victoria-Beacon Hill candidate Joachim Agou over posts containing racist language and apparent support for violence against pro-Palestinian protesters.

Agou apologized in a statement, saying some of his older posts no longer reflected his views.

The Conservatives have also faced criticism for not firing campaign director Katy Merrifield over social media posts in which she used profanity directed at Islam, described the religion as an “abhorrent ideology” and said “Islam is a literal rape culture.”

Doerkson has defended Merrifield during Wednesday’s leaders debate, saying she is a survivor of sexual assault and was lashing out as a reaction to trauma.

Doerkson also said he stood against hate.
