Improvements are underway at the intersection of Ross Street and Wallinger Avenue in Kimberley, with work aimed at making the area safer for drivers and pedestrians.
Construction began Oct. 16 and is expected to continue through the end of the month.
The project includes changes to the intersection’s layout to improve sightlines, the installation of sloped curb ramps at three corners and the realignment of the sidewalk on the east side.
The upgrades are intended to improve visibility, accessibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians.
According to the City of Kimberley, residents have raised concerns about the intersection for years.
The location was flagged as an area where improvements would be beneficial through the City’s Active Transportation Network Plan. The plan identified upgrades that could help create safer, more accessible links for people moving through the community and through continued advocacy the city pushed the province to take action.
Construction began Oct. 16 and will continue through the rest of the month.
Drivers and pedestrians should expect construction activity in the area, watch for signs, move carefully through the area and give crews room to work.
The city of Kimberley thanks the province for listening to their concerns and taking action by investing in upgrades for a safer community.
