Region down to High Streamflow Advisory

The flood risk has been lowering in the East Kootenay, with a High Streamflow Advisory now in effect.

Over the weekend the region was under the highest level, a Flood Warning.

It was then downgraded to a Flood Watch and now to a High Streamflow Advisory.

The steady rain that’s been in the forecast is expected to ease off today, but there may be some sporadic rainfall throughout the rest of the week.

The recent weather has added to high water levels, but the BC River Forecast Centre said it has also helped slow the spring thaw due to the cooler temperatures.

Waterways are still dangerous and residents should be extra cautious.

The evacuation alert is still in place for 97 properties along Fairmont Creek Area in Fairmont Hot Springs.
