Flood Warning now in effect for Kootenay River

The flood watch for the Kootenay River has been upgraded to a flood warning by the B.C. River Forecast Centre.

Streams around Kootenay National Park, Fort Steele, the upper Kootenay River and surrounding areas are included in the warning.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre said the rest of the East Kootenay remains under a flood watch.

The centre said accelerated snowmelt and rainfall have caused rivers to rise rapidly, and high flows are expected to continue across the region through Monday and Tuesday.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre also reported that the Sinclair Creek trails in Radium Hot Springs have been closed because of high water levels and that a new sandbag station has been set up at the Wilmer Community Hall.

Information on sandbag stations and emergency updates is available on the Regional District of East Kootenay emergency information page at www.rdek.bc.ca.

Further information will be provided when available.
