Flood warning downgraded to flood watch in East Kootenay

The BC River Forecast Centre has downgraded the flood warning to a flood watch, but caution is still needed around running water.

While the flooding risk isn’t as high, rain is still in the forecast and conditions can change.

There are 97 properties still on evacuation alert near Fairmont Creek.

Kootenay National Park officials are urging caution around waterways.

Water is moving very fast and levels are high.

Fast-moving water can erode shorelines and pathways without warning, causing them to collapse.

The Village of Radium is warning drivers that flooding conditions exist on Horsethief Creek Forest Service Road.

Sinclair Creek Trail near the Radium dog park has been closed due to rising waters and flooding from the creek.

Rain is expected to continue through Tuesday.
