Sparwood gets CBT grant for upgrades to Centennial Plaza

The District of Sparwood has been awarded $650,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust for upgrades to Centennial Plaza.

This was the max amount the district could get from the grant program.

The funds will help pay for a raised, covered, accessible performance stage and a permanent, year-round accessible public washroom facility.

“On behalf of Council, I am thrilled to share this exciting news with our community,” said Acting Mayor Amy Cardozo.

“This funding allows us to move forward with a project that residents clearly supported. The addition of a permanent stage and accessible washroom facilities will strengthen Centennial Plaza as a vibrant hub for community events, celebrations, cultural activities, and everyday connection. We are grateful to Columbia Basin Trust for recognizing the value of this investment and allowing us to bring this vision to life.”

The project will also include accessible pathways, a ramp, storage and sound equipment spaces.

The district will be working on finalizing the planning and scope of the project.
