The RDEK is looking for people to act as Election Officials this fall

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is calling on people interested in serving as election officials for this fall’s local election.

Reliable individuals interested in participating in the upcoming election process can submit applications until Aug. 14.

RDEK Chief Election Officer Tina Hlushak said election officials play a vital role in helping ensure the voting process runs smoothly.

“These are important positions that help ensure voters have a smooth and positive experience, and we encourage anyone interested in supporting the election process to apply,” said Hlushak.

Election officials will welcome and guide voters, register eligible voters, answer questions about the voting process and oversee voting stations and ballot boxes.

Hlushak said no previous experience or training is required.

“We’re encouraging community members from all backgrounds to consider applying. You do not need to have worked in an election before to take on this role. Full training is provided, and we’re looking for people who are dependable, communicate well, and are ready to support voters throughout election day.” said Hlushak.

The RDEK will hold a mandatory training session for election officials in Cranbrook on Oct. 5.

Those interested in applying can find the list of qualifications and application forms at www.engage.rdek.bc.ca/elections.
