Break it down; RDEK change size of concrete allowed at 3 landfills

The Regional District of East Kootenay is advising the public of new size limits for concrete accepted at three of its waste facilities.

The Columbia Valley, Central Subregion and Sparwood landfills will no longer accept concrete larger than 50 centimetres, or about 20 inches, in any dimension.

Concrete pieces must be no larger than 50 centimetres by 50 centimetres by 50 centimetres.

The RDEK said oversized concrete must be broken down before it arrives at the landfill to allow the material to be efficiently crushed and recycled.
