The District of Sparwood is overhauling its development cost charges bylaw.
Council has given two readings to the new bylaw.
Development cost charges are a financial tool that municipalities can use to recover a portion of the capital costs associated with needed infrastructure for new development.
The new bylaw will focus on a community-wide DCC approach instead of area-specific charges.
Only growth-related portions of infrastructure costs will come from DCCs, while the district will cover non-growth components.
The proposed DCC program will include water, sewer and protective services.
The bylaw will be up for adoption at a future council meeting.
More on the proposed bylaw can be found here.
