Lladnar Creek fire upgraded to wildfire of note

The Lladnar Creek fire is continuing to get bigger and hard to fight due to its location.

BC Wildfire Service officials said the fire has moved down from the ridgetop and is in a tough spot for crews to reach.

However, ground personnel and heavy equipment resources are assigned and will be on the blaze this evening.

Officials said aviation efforts don’t help unless ground crew are on the scene.

If they leave it up to bucketing, the water could wash burning debris downslope and the heavy winds that helicopter rotors create can cast burning embers, starting spot fires.

The fire has grown to approximately 150 hectares and is believed to have been started by lightning.

It’s been upgraded to a wildfire of note, which is for fires that are highly visible or pose a potential threat to public safety.

Four properties in the Matevic Road area were placed on an evacuation alert on Sunday.
