Break out your boards and start practicing your McTwists and Stalefish grabs because Fernie’s new skate park is opening soon.
The grand opening will take place on May 16 from 4-8 p.m. and will include live music, food trucks and demonstrations from semi-pro skaters.
The new skate park has been completely redone to accommodate all types of riders and skill levels.
“It is more of a modernizing of the facility and it’s reducing barriers for folks with disabilities,” said Mayor Nic Milligan.
“It’s a multi-wheel park so it provides for skateboards, bicycles, scooters, inline skates, the whole gambit.”
He said lots of time went into making sure it was the perfect park for the community.
“It was subject to a pretty broad process of community consultations,” he added.
“We had the skate community out to tell us what they wanted and one of the unusual things you will see is a covered area, which extends the season.”
