Energy efficiency workshops coming to East Kootenay communities

Free Home Energy Efficiency Workshops are being offered in seven East Kootenay communities this fall to help homeowners improve comfort and reduce energy use at home.

Delivered by the Community Energy Association on behalf of the Columbia Basin Trust(CBT), these workshops will help homeowners better understand how energy is used in the home.

The workshops are being offered in 25 communities across the Columbia Basin, after Ulli Mueller, CBT Senior Manager & Delivery of Benefits said residents are having trouble finding information.

“Residents have told us they’re looking for practical information about improving home comfort and energy efficiency, but it can be difficult to know where to start,” said Mueller.

The free workshops will run from September 8 to October 22, and will include live demonstrations, practical take-home resources, and guidance from energy-efficiency experts.

“Through this partnership with Community Energy Association, we’re bringing expert-led workshops to communities across the Basin so homeowners can understand their options and make informed decisions about future home improvements,” said Mueller.

Other information attendees will learn includes where homes commonly lose energy, simple, low-cost habits to reduce energy use, easy DIY home improvements, practical ways to improve comfort, and available rebates and resources for larger home retrofit projects.

The workshops are free to attend, but advance registration is recommended due to limited space.

East Kootenay workshop locations and dates include the following.

  • Fernie – Sept. 21
  • Yaqit ʔa·knuqⱡiʔit – Sept. 22
  • Elkford – Sept. 23
