Flats Fest sees funding boost from CBT

This year’s Flats Fest and other festivals and events in the East Kootenay are getting some extra funding from the Columbia Basin Trust.

Flats Fest is receiving $15,000 to support the two-day festival that brings together artists, vendors and country music fans.

“Flats Fest is so much more than a music festival—it’s a community effort that showcases our incredible volunteers, supports local businesses and welcomes visitors to Canal Flats,” said Valerie Bracken, Vice President, Flats Fest Society.

“The event creates opportunities for people to connect through music and shared experiences while contributing to the vitality of our local economy.”

Two Fernie events also got funds. The 2026 Elk Valley Pride Festival got $15,000 and the Fernie Wednesday Social received the same amount.

EmberFest 2027 and Summer Kicks 2026 in Golden both got $15,000.

The Key City Theatre Society received $13,815 for the 2026 Kootenay Children’s Festival.
