Purcell Collegiate School holding Sparx Speaker Series on Truth and Reconciliation

The Purcell Collegiate School is having its first event in the Sparx Speaker Series tonight in Kimberley.

The school will be hosting 15 speakers and workshops each year, showcasing a variety of topics.

Tonight’s event will focus on Truth and Reconciliation with former Ê”AqÌ“am chief Sophie Pierre speaking.

“A lot of the dialogue across Canada for the last couple of years has been around reconciliation and I’ve taken advantage of that, whenever I’ve had an opportunity to speak about reconciliation and what that means to us as the Ktunaxa Nation,” she said.

“I liken it to being neighbours. I think that’s really important because we are all here, we’re living together and we can have the very best life here together when we work together.”

Pierre said she has been pleased with the new school and their approach to working together.

“I’m very supportive of it, I think It’s a wonderful idea for the region and I’m mostly pleased that right from day one the organizers of the school recognized the importance of having the Ktunaxa Nation involved.”

The event is open to Purcell Collegiate students, SD5 and SD6 staff, students and parents.

It will be at 7 p.m. at the McKim Theatre.

Dennis Walker’s full interview with Sophie Pierre, Chief Joe Pierre and head of school and CEO Duncan Macleod can be found below.
