Police still looking for suspect in ‘serious weapons complaint’

Update (May 9, 2024):

The public is asked to remain alert for the suspect involved in Wednesday’s ‘serious weapons complaint’ in the Jaffray area.

The RCMP said the suspect remains at large but does not pose a threat to public safety.

If you see an older-model dark grey Ford F150 with a headache rack, camouflage detailing and a heavily damaged windshield and front end, you should not approach and immediately call 9-1-1.

The vehicle was last seen with B.C. license plate S-M-9-7-4-0 on the front.

“There continues to be no active threat to the public, but given the suspect is still at large, we’re asking the public to call 911 should they see the vehicle in question,” says Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.

“RCMP resources are in place, continuing to actively search for the suspect.”

Police officials released a photo of the suspect vehicle.

Original story (May 8, 2024):

The public is asked to stay clear of the Jaffray area as a heavy police presence is responding to a ‘serious weapons complaint.’

Cpl. James Grandy, media relations officer for the Southeast District RCMP said police were called out to a rural property near Baynes Lake on Wednesday.

“RCMP has a heavy presence in the Jaffray area as well as the southeast of Kikomun Creek Park,” said Cpl. Grandy. “They’re looking for a suspect who was involved in a weapons complaint this morning [Wed, May 8, 2024] and may still be in the area.”

No injuries have been reported yet, but police still advise caution.

“At this time, the incident appears to be targeted,” said Cpl. Grandy.

“Police continue to monitor this event and its associated risk to public safety. The suspect does not appear to be an active threat, but does remain at large.”

Grandy said the man should be considered armed and dangerous.

If you see an older-model dark grey Ford F150 with a headache rack, camouflage detailing and a heavily damaged windshield and front end, you should not approach and immediately call 9-1-1.

“Several RCMP resources are heading to the area to locate the individual, so we want people to stay away from the area if they can,” said Cpl. Grandy.
