Crews setting up machinery to protect against Lladnar Creek fire

Crews are putting in machine guards along the BC Hydro right-of-way at the bottom of the slope near Sparwood as the Lladnar Creek fire continues to burn.

Overnight fire was mostly Rank 1 and 2 although there were spots of Rank 3 behaviour.

The weather is expected to remain hot, dry and windy.

The blaze has been moving down the slope towards Sparwood. That’s why crews are constructing machine guards and wet lines to help prevent the spread.

Helicopters will be used where they can, but the steep terrain makes it difficult for them to work safely.

Bucketing in that kind of terrain could easily push burning debris down the slope causing more harm than good.

Last night the evacuation alert was extended to all properties on Upper and Lower Matevic Road and all properties in Sparwood Heights, South of Sparwood Heights Drive.
