New active transportation to begin near Marysville School

Work on Kimberley’s next active transportation project is set to begin near Marysville Elementary School on Monday.

City officials said the project will enhance infrastructure along 309th Ave between 304th Street and 307th Street to make the area safer for students to walk to bike to school.

“The improvements will include the installation of sidewalks and curb extensions, improved accessibility, and the installation of signage and street markings to improve safety in the vicinity of the school,” said city staff.

“By implementing these measures, the City of Kimberley aims to create a more accessible and secure active transport network, encouraging students and residents to choose alternative modes of transportation for their daily commute.”

City officials said they will work to ensure limited disruptions to the neighbourhood.

They expect the project to be completed by the start of the school year.

“This initiative aligns with the City’s Active Transportation Network Plan and its vision to foster a healthier and more environmentally friendly community,” said city staff. “This project was made possible by the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure – Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant program.”
