Selling fireworks in rural areas under the Regional District of East Kootenay will now be banned from May 1st to October 1st each year.
The prohibited moved comes as theĀ RDEK is not able to regulate the use of fireworks in the same way that a municipality can.
The use of fireworks in rural areas is under the province’s jurisdiction and they are prohibited anytime there is a Category 2 open burning ban in place.
The ban on sales applies to any person or business within rural Electoral Areas A, B, C, E, F and G.
