Cranbrook resident lands $500,000 payday with Lotto Max win

A Cranbrook resident turned a regular drive to work into a celebration with a $500,000 Lotto Max Extra win.

The BC Lottery Corporation said Michael Beauchamp matched all four Extra numbers in the June 20 draw, landing him the half-million dollar payday.

Beauchamp picked up the ticket at the Petro Canada gas station on Cranbrook Street North and decided to check his numbers on the way to work.

“I was on my way to work when I pulled over to check my ticket,” recalled Beauchamp. “I was shocked and had to ask myself, ‘Is this real?’”

He shared the news with his partner Patti before resuming his drive.

“I sent Patti a picture and asked her if it was real,” he recalled. “She’s the only one I’ve told so far and she was like, ‘Wow!’ She was super happy for me.”

BCLC said Beauchamp initially kept the news low-key but began looking for a new house and looks forward to retiring earlier than he anticipated.
