Kimberley council approves zoning amendment for Marysville development

Kimberley city council has approved a zoning amendment to allow for the development of four multiple-unit buildings in an empty lot along 304th Street in Marysville.

The proposed buildings are expected to have two to five residential units in them and up to two commercial units.

Mayor Don McCormick said it’s a much-needed development for the area.

“We are very challenged when it comes to smaller commercial storefront properties and of course, it’s going to add to the housing inventory in town. This is kind of a twofer and we’re pretty excited about it.”

The empty lot was the site of a service station. The developer has been remediating the land for a couple of years now and they have obtained a certificate of compliance.

Now that the zoning amendment has been approved it will go back to the developer.

“The onus goes back on the proponent now to come forward with greater detail on the development itself and the development permit is the next step in the process,” the mayor added.

“Once the development permit is in place, the next step is a construction permit and then construction happens.”

McCormick said it will still be a while before shovels hit the dirt.

“Typically these things don’t happen over the course of months, we’re probably looking at a larger period of time before we see something happen on that particular property, but all of that, the timing and everything is on the developer.”
