JCI Kootenay brings home top regional honours

JCI Kootenay had a successful appearance at the 2026 JCI BC/Yukon Regional Conference, bringing home three major awards and a regional effective speaking championship.

The conference at Blue Lake Camp last weekend included leadership training, networking, team building, and governance meetings.

JCI Kootenay was nominated for five regional awards and took home Chapter of the Year, Member of the Year for Daniel Crema, and Project of the Year for 30 Under 30.

The 30 Under 30 program was recognized as the region’s top project for highlighting and celebrating young leaders across the Columbia Basin who are making positive impacts in their communities.

Another accomplishment for JCI Kootenay was member Shane Nickel-Thibodeau winning the BC/Yukon Regional Effective Speaking Competition. Nickel-Thibodeau will go on to represent the region and compete against other top speakers at the JCI Canada National Convention in Montreal this September.

JCI Kootenay President Daniel Crema credited the awards to the dedication and commitment displayed by JCI members.

“These awards reflect the dedication and passion of our members. Whether it’s developing leadership skills, delivering meaningful community projects, or stepping onto the stage to compete in effective speaking, our members continue to demonstrate what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose.” said Crema.

The awards recognize JCI Kootenay’s leadership development work and community impact in the East Kootenay, while also giving the region national representation through its effective speaking champion.
