BC Wildfire Service shrinks restricted area around two local wildfires

The BC Wildfire Service has reduced the restricted areas around the Ravenshead and Mount Morro wildfires.

The Ravenshead wildfire, about 20 km south of Invermere, has grown to 8,292 hectares since it was discovered on July 24.

The fire is still out of control, but the BC Wildfire Service changed the restricted area on the south side of the blaze.

You can find a map of the amended restriction here.

Meanwhile, the Mount Morro wildfire has grown to 11,483 since it was reported on July 17.

BC Wildfire Service officials said the fire is still out of control, but decided to shrink the restricted area along the north and south ends of the fire.

You can find the changes on this map.

Residents will not be allowed to enter the restricted area without written permission from a designated official.

That said, you can enter if you are travelling to or from your home that is not under an evacuation order, using a highway, helping with firefighting efforts, or you are travelling as a person acting in an official capacity.

Failing to comply with an area restriction could result in a $1,150 fine.

The restricted area will remain in place until the BC Wildfire Service removes it or until September 30.
