The Columbia Valley RCMP is urging residents to be mindful of phone scams targeting people in the area.
Police said two common scams they are seeing are the Publisher Clearing House and Canadian Revenue Agency frauds.
Publisher Clearing House is not available in Canada and Canadians aren’t eligible to win any of their prizes and the CRA won’t call you to obtain information.
RCMP officials said there are a number of other scams present and you should never provide personal information over the phone.
If you’re unsure if a call is legitimate, you should hang up and get a second opinion from the local police or a trusted friend.
