Mayor Don McCormick is hoping to see some new faces try their hand at local politics as the city gets set for a by-election.
“We encourage anybody who is thinking about local government to at least have a close look,” he said.
“They should contact the corporate officer or the deputy corporate officer in Kimberley. There is a package that will be put together and it should say all there is to say about what you are getting into.”
This comes after councillor Steven Royer announced he was stepping down on April 9.

“By-elections aren’t that common but they aren’t that unusual either,” McCormick said.
“From time to time we have councillors who have personal situations that require them to step down and that’s what is happening in this particular case.”
The by-election likely won’t be for some time to avoid voting in the summer months.
“Our by-election isn’t likely to happen until September and in the meantime, there are six of us around the table that will continue to conduct business as usual,” he said.
