Kimberley council member stepping down, by-election to come

Steven Royer is stepping down from Kimberley’s City Council, setting the stage for a by-election.

City officials announced Tuesday that Royer is leaving his council seat for personal reasons, effective immediately.

“First elected in October 2022, Royer has contributed to the betterment of our community,” said city officials. “His service and commitment are appreciated.”

Mayor Don McCormick said he was grateful for Royer’s time on council.

“We thank Steven for his contributions to the City of Kimberley,” said McCormick. “We extend our best wishes as he focuses on his personal priorities.”

City officials anticipate a by-election to fill the vacancy to go ahead in September to go along with timelines in the Local Government Act and avoid voting in the summer months.

Details about candidacy, voting opportunities, and election dates will come soon.

“The City of Kimberley is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in representation for its residents,” said city staff.
