Warming centres are open over the weekend for Fernie residents needing a break from the freezing temperatures.
On Jan. 12, the Fernie Heritage Library will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and the Fernie Seniors Centre will be open overnight from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The next day the library will be open from noon until 4 p.m., but the seniors centre will be open for the same amount of time as the night before.
The entire region is being hit hard by cold weather, but the Elk Valley is getting the brunt of it.
Temperatures are in the negative 30s overnight but will feel even colder.
