Waste water treatment plant top of mind for Sparwood mayor

Sparwoods mayor says upgrades to the community’s waste water treatment plant is the number one project slated for 2024.

“Certainly, the number one is the waste water treatment plant,” said Sparwood mayor David Wilks.

“We’ve been struggling with that for a number of years, trying to see what the right system is for us in Sparwood because of our very cold water that we have. We’ve identified one and we’re going to start moving forward.”

He says council will also look to keep tackling an issue affecting all communities.

“Along with every other community across the board, housing,” Wilks said.

“We just can not build it fast enough and we’re at the whim of contractors who have difficulties securing employment.’

He added that their finances are in a place where they can address the issue.

“We’re pretty lucky in Sparwood. we have fantastic reserve funds and we’ve been able to manage our money very well with our excellent finance staff. As a result of that, when we see issues, they’re not as difficult as some communities.”
