Henry Gerald Jones is East Kootenay Regional Hospital’s first baby of 2024

The East Kootenay Regional Hospital’s first baby of the new year was born at 7:26 p.m. on Jan. 2 weighing 8 lbs and 5 oz.

His parents Felicity and Bradley Jones are excited to welcome their first boy, Henry Gerald Jones, into their growing family.

“Mom is doing really well and Henry’s doing well,” said Bradley Jones.

“We’re really excited to welcome our first boy into our family and now it’s a family of five. We have two girls at home (3 years old and 18 months) and they’re really excited to meet their new baby brother.”

He said it was up in the air on if Henry was going to be the hospital’s New Year’s baby.

“It’s funny actually. We thought it wasn’t going to happen because Felicity got induced on the 1st and it was a long labour so we thought we might not have the chance to be the New Year’s baby but he came just in time yesterday evening,” Jones added.

“We’re just really happy and excited to have this new addition to our family.”

By having a boy, they were able to honour Jones’ late grandfather.

“The first name is just a name that we like, the middle name was more important because it’s named after my grandfather Gerald Jones,” he said.

“My dad was actually born in Cranbrook many years ago and my grandfather Gerry and his wife Ursula were very much involved in the Cranbrook community. They unfortunately have both passed on now but we wanted to honour my grandfather.”

Jones also said they owe a big thanks to the staff at the hospital and are grateful for the care they received.

“The nurses and our doctor were just fantastic,” he said.

“Amanda, Cassie, Rebecca and Dr. Sanregret did a fantastic job looking after us throughout the pregnancy and we’re just really grateful and thankful that they were there on delivery day.”
