local players heading south to continue hockey development

Two hockey players from Cranbrook are heading to the United States to continue their hockey journeys.

Grayson Meisner is 17 and has committed to Michigan ACHA Division 1 Hockey.

He said the opportunities in the States are better than what’s available in Canada.

“I decided to play in the U.S. because there weren’t many options in Canada for hockey,” he said.

“There is a lot better success that players get when playing college hockey in the U.S., a lot more pro opportunities to play and better schooling.”

He spent last season with the U-18 Bucks.

His brother Gavin is fifteen and also heading to the U.S.

He’ll be playing Junio A for Decatur Illinois.

“After I got invited to play in Sweden the head coach scouted me and wanted me to play there,” he added.

Gavin played for the U15 Dynamiters last season.
