Avalanche risk heightened between Kimberley and Golden

Avalanche Canada says the risk of a slide is considerable in the backcountry between Kimberley and Golden.

Officials say the higher risk is in the alpine and treeline, but it’s still moderate below the treeline.

An already weak snowpack is expected to be further stressed by high daytime freezing levels and mild overnight temperatures.

If you are heading into the backcountry, Avalanche Canada recommends sticking to conservative, low-angle and supported terrain features.

They also recommend avoiding thin and rocky terrain because warming will be the most intense there.
