One man killed in vehicle accident along Highway 3

One person was killed when a truck drove into the trees and rolled onto its roof along Highway 3, just south of Sparwood on Wednesday.

Elk Valley RCMP officials say the accident happened before 6:30 p.m.

Once first responders arrived, they saw the truck on its roof in the trees and passers-by attempting chest compressions on the vehicle’s lone occupant.

Police attempted to help the man before the BC Ambulance Service took over care of the patient.

The man was brought to the Sparwood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after further attempts to save his life.

According to witnesses on the scene, the vehicle did not make a turn and drive straight into the ditch and into the trees.

Police officials believe the accident was caused by a medical incident, as investigators have no suspicion that any intoxicating substances were a factor.

Highway 3 south of Sparwood was closed but has since reopened.

“Elk Valley RCMP offers their condolences to the family of the driver. Our investigation is ongoing,” said police officials.
