Fernie SAR responds to numerous 2022 Tour Divide calls

Fernie Search and Rescue is calling on bikers to delay or find another route after responding to multiple calls from cyclists riding in the 2022 Tour Divide.

The annual event sees over 200 riders take part in the 4,400-kilometre journey from Banff to the US/Mexico border.

This year’s event happened to go through the Elk Valley at the same time the area was hit with heavy rain, flooding and even snow.

Fernie SAR officials say they have already rescued two bikers and were called out again yesterday afternoon.

That search however was unsuccessful, with the rider now believed to be in Northern Montana.

Because of the rough weather crews are asking competitors to try to find another route or delay their trip.
