Drivers in the Kootenays face a heightened risk of wildlife collisions in May and June, as increased deer and elk activity coincides with seasonal changes in driving conditions, Road Safety at Work said.
A few mild afternoons don’t mean winter is over, especially in higher-elevation areas of the Kootenays. Snow flurries remain in the forecast across the region.
Drivers may face a higher crash risk for several days after the spring time change as lost sleep builds fatigue and reduces alertness, road safety advocates warn.
