Sparwood awards curling centre roof contract

Sparwood council has authorized a contract worth $260,000 plus applicable taxes for the curling rink roof replacement.

Council has also decided to defer ceiling structural upgrades until next year.

Originally council had approved $449,650 to address the Curling Rink roof. which would include upgrades to the ceiling beams.

it was determined that the lead time on the production of the beams would not be completed until late 2025 at the earliest and would impact the curling season.

The upgrades are required due to the current Environment Canada snow loads exceeding the weight bearing capacity.

However the district says they can manage it for this season with a temporary measure of implementing a snow management plan.
