Local RCMP starting new community program

The Cranbrook RCMP is launching a new initiative to help identify stolen property.

Police say they recover a large amount of stolen property but have a hard time getting it back to the rightful owner.

The Cranbrook RCMP community policing team will be offering engraving tools that the public can use for free.

Police say engraving belongings make your property less appealing to thieves and it’s easier for police to return it to you.

Residents can bring items to the detachment with photo ID and they’ll help you engrave it.

Those who can’t make it in can call the detachment and have a community policing member or volunteer assist.
